Brain To Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo – Round Up

B2BCyCon2018A Brain To Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo – Round Up

The Brain to Books Cyber Convention and Book Expo is over for 2018, and I wanted to do a round-up of all the events that happened under the Fantasy Genre. (This post is definitely longer than my usual posts).

As the B2BCyCon Fantasy Genre Manager I’d like to thank all the authors who took part in the various events, which were a lot of fun to arrange and manage. A lot of emails and Messenger discussions went on during the build-up to the weekend, and everyone involved made my job a lot of fun.

20+ authors came together to create:

  • 2 blog tours, exploring why we write fantasy, and what elements define fantasy for us as writers. (links to the stops on each blog tour can be found below).
  • 3 panel discussions covering creating worlds, what creatures define a story as fantasy, and how to mix genres. (links can be found below).
  • An ongoing story on Goodreads, where multiple authors have contributed to the story.
  • 2 tournaments, one pitching covers against each other, and a second pitching characters against each other.
  • And an author showcase, giving potential readers a chance to find them and learn more about their work.
  • I also had the pleasure of joining Joe Compton and over on the GoIndieNow coverage of the weekend.

In the interest of showing just how readers voted on the two tournaments I provided the votes for each round.

Blog Tours

Here are the links for the two blog tours for the fantasy genre. I’d like to thank all of the authors for contributing their views, and personal reasons for writing fantasy.

Discussion Panels

Three discussion panels were recorded over the space of two days, and I had the pleasure of being joined by 7 different authors in various combinations. Those authors included Tom Fallwell, Aziza Sphinx, Anita Stewart, Ed Ireland, my wife (and co-writer) Sandi Bateson, Rebecca Carter and Angela B. Chrysler (Mrs B2BCyCon herself).

Each of the participating authors took as much as two hours out of their day to address our topic of discussion. I loved doing these events, because there were many points on which we agreed, and others where we disagreed, making for some interesting conversations.

#1 – Do You Need Dwarves, Elves, and Dragons For A Story To Be Considered Fantasy?

Hosted: Timothy Bateson
Panelists: Angela B. Chrysler, Tom Fallwell, Sandi Bateson, Anita Stewart

#2 – World Building

Hosted: Timothy Bateson

Panelists: Angela B. Chrysler, Tom Fallwell, Aziza Sphinx

#3 – Mixing Fantasy with Other Genres/History

(AKA: “What Happens When Author Muses Lead Them Off Topic” or “Shut It Scribe!”)

Just a warning, this discussion started on topic, and then went COMPLETELY off topic…

Hosted: Timothy Bateson

Panelists: Angela B. Chrysler, Anita Stewart, Ed Ireland, Rebecca Carter

4th Annual Brain To Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo

I can’t believe how fast these events keeping coming around, or that I’ve been part of this amazing event since the very start.

I’m very excited to announce that I’m helping to setup this year’s Fantasy events for the Brain to Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo (aka B2BCyCon). I’ll be helping the fantasy genre authors setup their blog tours, discussions, competitions, giveaways, and anything else they can come up with.

You see, that’s the exciting thing about the B2BCyCon; it’s all about connecting readers and writers online.

Blog Header - What is the Brain to Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo_

Angela B. Chrysler first started the Brain to Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo back in 2015 over on Goodreads. Since then it’s team of volunteers have grown it into one of the biggest and most diverse online book events that I know of.

But don’t take my word for it. Testimonials of participating authors and readers can be found here.

Basically it’s an entire weekend of books, writing, discussion, competitions and giveaways.

To quote the Brain to Books website:

CyCon is a virtual version of the San Diego Comic Con, but our theme is books. We organize a number of events, celebrating every genre, reader, and undiscovered author out there, and we host dozens of events all crammed into three days. To experience CyCon is a lot like attending a State Fair, only CyCon is 100% online. There is simply so much to do that it’s impossible to do it all in one day and there is something for everyone.

The aim of the Brain to Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo is described by Angela as follows:

For three days, Brain to Books shines the spotlight on authors not seen in bookstores as a means to welcome in the new season of book releases. Working to increase reader awareness of these hidden treasures, authors, publishers, and retailers are coming together world wide for the largest book event designed just for you, the book lover! We’re giving away books, presenting readers with never-seen-before content, and featuring the world’s largest collection of undiscovered talent available today. We have blog hops, panels, discussions, contests, games, prizes, story time, book readings, sales, and exclusive content only available for these three days. This is content you won’t find anywhere else!

3rd Annual Brain To Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo

I’m Timothy Bateson, and this is my third time doing the Brain to Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo. Every year, this event has just got bigger and better organized, and I’ve gone from a participating author to Fantasy Genre Manager. What makes this year different is that I’m more excited than ever, because there are so many great authors coming on board this year, as well as some old friends returning from previous years.

Over the last few weeks I’ve had the honor of helping over 70 fantasy authors prepare themselves for the CyCon, as well as getting ready myself.

So, what have we got going one?

  • Fantasy Blog Hop – Your chance to take a tour of some of the authors websites and learn more about them. Discover additional materials, uncover great books, sign-up for exclusive offers/news. The blog hop is separated into three groups, and will go live on April 6th at 9pm EST:
    • Tour #1starts here – featuring: Aaron-Michael Hall, Alexandra Carey, Alexis Kennedy, Amanda Mabry, Andy Peloquin, Angel M., Angela B. Chrysler
    • Tour #2starts here – featuring: Angela J. Ford, Assaph Mehr, C.T. Callahan, D. Thourson Palmer, Ilana Maletz, Jack Massa, Jodie Pierce
    • Tour #3starts here – featuring: Logan Miehl, Mackenzie Flohr, Sarah Kennedy, Stephen Morris, Toi Thomas, Zachary Chopchinski, Mary R. Woldering
  • Fantasy Genre Tour – This is where we give the authors the spotlight, and let them take the floor. You’ll find book expos, articles, and giveaways inside:
    • Tour #1“Showcase & Giveaways” – A showcase of books, series, and giveaways. Follow it all the way through for a chance to win a $100 Amazon Gift Card
    • Tour #2“Behind The Scenes” – See what goes on in the minds of fantasy authors,
  • First Lines Scavenger Hunt – Match the first lines of the stories to the books they came from, and be entered for a chance to win some amazing prizes. The participating authors have offered up everything from books to gift cards.
  • Fantasy Author Showcase – Drop in on the authors over at Goodreads, where you can find out more about over 30 great fantasy authors. We’re the largest group in the expo, with some of the most diverse readers. Come find out why!

What I’ll Be Doing

I’m taking part in many of the events that are listed above, as well as overseeing several  things happening on Facebook, running some discussion panels, and much more.

So head over to the Brain to Books website, and save the dates for this amazing event, and discover some fantastic books and writers.

B2BCyCon Is Coming – Show Your Support For The Fantasy Genre Events!

So What’s It All About?

There are rumblings deep under the mountain, and those who live close by swear that they have seen fire and smoke in the distance. Ever since the town was established, local bards have told tales of a great monster that sleeps beneath those sacred peaks. But every now and then it awakes, angry at the world, and with a hunger that will only be satisfied with destruction. Before you know it, the great beast will awaken, and unleash havoc upon the land.
The mayor is asking for volunteers to take on the challenge. Will you be one of the few with the bravery and skill to venture into the caverns in search of a way to destroy the beast, before it awakes?

Join the brave souls attending the Brain To Books Cyber Convention fantasy genre events. And keep reading to find out what it’s all about, how to show your support, and what is happening elsewhere at the convention.

Brain To Books Cyber Convention Round-Up #3

Brain to Books & Cyber Convention Now Have Websites

There are two new websites that are getting me really excited. Last year, I teamed up with Brain to Books to participate in the first Cyber Convention, and I did it again this year. Both events were a lot of fun, and full opportunities for both readers and writers alike. And now they both have official websites:

Please bookmark both these sites, because they’re going to be the go-to resources for upcoming Brain to Books events, and next year’s convention.

Brain to Books Cyber Convention – Index Of Events

Angela B. Chrysler was kind enough to mail out a list of events from this year’s Brain to Books Cyber Convention. This list includes a huge collection of links, so there’s likely something for everyone.
