3rd Annual Brain To Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo

I’m Timothy Bateson, and this is my third time doing the Brain to Books Cyber Convention & Book Expo. Every year, this event has just got bigger and better organized, and I’ve gone from a participating author to Fantasy Genre Manager. What makes this year different is that I’m more excited than ever, because there are so many great authors coming on board this year, as well as some old friends returning from previous years.

Over the last few weeks I’ve had the honor of helping over 70 fantasy authors prepare themselves for the CyCon, as well as getting ready myself.

So, what have we got going one?

  • Fantasy Blog Hop – Your chance to take a tour of some of the authors websites and learn more about them. Discover additional materials, uncover great books, sign-up for exclusive offers/news. The blog hop is separated into three groups, and will go live on April 6th at 9pm EST:

What I’ll Be Doing

I’m taking part in many of the events that are listed above, as well as overseeing several  things happening on Facebook, running some discussion panels, and much more.

B2BCyCon Is Coming – Show Your Support For The Fantasy Genre Events!

So What’s It All About?

There are rumblings deep under the mountain, and those who live close by swear that they have seen fire and smoke in the distance. Ever since the town was established, local bards have told tales of a great monster that sleeps beneath those sacred peaks. But every now and then it awakes, angry at the world, and with a hunger that will only be satisfied with destruction. Before you know it, the great beast will awaken, and unleash havoc upon the land.
The mayor is asking for volunteers to take on the challenge. Will you be one of the few with the bravery and skill to venture into the caverns in search of a way to destroy the beast, before it awakes?

Brain To Books Cyber Convention Round-Up #3

Brain to Books & Cyber Convention Now Have Websites

There are two new websites that are getting me really excited. Last year, I teamed up with Brain to Books to participate in the first Cyber Convention, and I did it again this year. Both events were a lot of fun, and full opportunities for both readers and writers alike. And now they both have official websites:

Please bookmark both these sites, because they’re going to be the go-to resources for upcoming Brain to Books events, and next year’s convention.

Brain to Books Cyber Convention – Index Of Events

Angela B. Chrysler was kind enough to mail out a list of events from this year’s Brain to Books Cyber Convention. This list includes a huge collection of links, so there’s likely something for everyone.

Facebook-B2B-Cy-Con-1

The 2016 Brain To Books Cyber Convention is coming: April 8th – April 10th 2016

Last year, I took part in the 2015 Author Cyber Convention. And preparations are underway for this year’s event.

The amazing Angela B. Chrysler has once again reached out to authors around the world, and is in the throes of arranging a huge collection of events. Many of last year’s authors will be participating, and there will be games, competitions, Q&As, interviews, giveaways, author takeover events, blog hops, and so much more.

When Angela talks about the event format, she describes it in terms of being an online Comi-Con for readers. Authors were online throughout the weekend, on Goodreads and Facebook, as well as running events on their own blogs and sites.

If you’re an author, you’re welcome to come join the fun, and meet the readers. The event is going to be very flexible in terms of format, and suggestions are welcome.

For the readers, this is the ideal opportunity to discover authors you might not see on the bookshelves, and even find your new favorite book, or series. From past experience of taking part in smaller-scale events, I’ve almost always walked away with a handful of new books, and started following some amazing authors.

What Is The 2016 Brain To Books Cyber Convention?

Last year the event was called the 2015 Author Cyber Convention, this year, it’s called the Brain to Books Cyber Convention. A lot of things from last year remain the same, but there are some changes.
I can’t explain things any better than Angela, so I’m going to quote her email introduction, and invitation:

First, what is the Brain to Books Cyber Convention? Last year, was the first annual Brain to Books Cyber Convention #B2BCYCON. 200+ Authors and readers came together for this three day event. Modeled after Comi-Con, the Brain to Books Cyber Convention is online, free, and connects readers to authors. Authors basically put on a fantastic show for the readers. And yes, we want readers there! This year marks our second annual Cyber Convention. It is held here on Goodreads. This we we have expanded it to Facebook. If you are a reader wanting to attend, join this group — https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/… —mark your calendar for 8, 9, & 10 April 2016 and relax.

If you are an author and want to be part of this, great! Go here — https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/… — Join the groups (There are 2 Goodreads Groups for participating authors to join), then read the posts. PM me if you want to skip all that and are wanting to know more.

I am currently reaching out to all my groups, raising the awareness to bring everyone interested in early this year to make preparations. Yes. Some of you will get this message many times (Once from each of my groups. For that I am sorry). Yes. The convention requires 4 months to prepare for. It’s a lot of people. This year, we are projecting to see 400 attend!

A few changes to note:

1 – There is no sign up this year. Just join the groups, read the threads, and ask questions if you need.

2 – We are on Facebook this year. Be sure to join that group as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/95966…

3 – Thunderclaps are ready soon and will be posted as they come in. I am planning to do 3.

Upcoming Events

A Year In Publishing

It is almost a year since my first short story “Under a Hunter’s Moon” went into print, and it’s been a very exciting year. “Moon Shadows” hit the shelves in October 2015, and was a huge success at the book signing event I held at my local independent bookstore. In fact, it was such a huge success that we sold out the entire stock of the books that were ordered.

At the same time that “Moon Shadows” was hitting bookshelves, and online retailers, “Spooky Halloween Drabbles 2015” was hitting the Kindle market, with my ultra-short story “Shifting Dreams”.

In May 2015 “Across the Karman Line” came out, featuring my first science fiction short story “Evaline Transcendent”. Before this book even hit the shelves, my local bookstore asked me to participate in an “Independent Bookstores” event. I sat on a panel of fellow Alaskan writers, and answered questions about relationships, and what makes our characters tick. I made some great connections with both potential readers, and my fellow writers.

In Summary

So: What’s Next?

I have a number of projects in the works, including the much dreamed of first novel. I’m currently in the process of outlining the plot, and tweaking my characters to make everything work. For those who have read my existing works, this novel will see the return of Richard Parsons, star of “Under a Hunter’s Moon” and “The Lupine’s Call”.Here is the premise of the novel, as it stands:

Blackmailed into consulting for the Seattle Police Department’s Supernatural Taskforce, Richard Parsons enters a race against time when a mysterious killer starts tearing apart his fellow lupines (werewolves).
“Locked room mysteries were not part of the deal”.

“If you can dream it, you can do it”
– Walt Disney

But not without help! So a few thank you’s are in order:

  • Sandi Bateson, for all your love, support, and patience as I approached submission deadlines and for bringing your music and writing into my life.
  • The staff at Laurel Highlands Publishing, for picking up two of my stories in the last year, and for all the hard work and dedication that goes into helping me make those the best stories I could.
  • The amazing staff at Fireside Books, who have supported me throughout the release of two books, hosted my book signing sessions, and invited me to participate in their events to raise awareness of local authors..
  • All my co-workers, friends, family, and online colleagues who have made this such a wonderful year, especially all those wonderful people on GoodReads. A more amazing team of supporters, promoters, and interviewers I can’t imagine. I wish I could thank you all personally.
