2016 Brain To Books Cyber Convention – Where To Find Me

Facebook B2B Cy-Con (1)

Alright, it’s rapidly approaching the time of the big event of the season. The 2016 Brain To Books Cyber Convention is this happening this coming weekend, starting on the Friday 8th April, and going through until Sunday 10th April. There are a huge number of events taking place, and I’ll be participating in a number of them.

To find your way around the event, CC.Rogers has put together two amazing word maps.

My Booth On Goodreads

Every great convention has booths where the writers are able to meet with their readers. This year, I’m going to be hosting one over on Goodreads, where I’ll be posting quite a lot of information for people to learn more about my work.

Facebook Author Takeover Events

I’m also taking part in a couple of Facebook events, where authors will be live, and taking time to meet the readers, host giveaways, competitions, and get to know people.

I can be found here:

The Blog Tours

The links below are to the starting points of each Blog Tour I’m participating in:

Science Fiction Blog Tour (April 10th)

Book Spotlight Tour.. Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Urban Fantasy (All Weekend)

There are a few other things going on, which I’m still setting up… So please check back here before the weekend.

Heroes & Villains Tournament

Richard Parsons, from my “Shadows Over Seattle” stories is appearing in a Heroes & Villains Tournament.

Please feel free to pass word around about this tournament, because each round is going to be decided by reader votes. There are some great writers in this collection, and some fascinating characters. Every round will be run to the following schedule.

Voting opens at midnight on Friday morning April 8th. Below are all the voting time frames for each round:
  • 1st Round: Voting starts Midnight PST Friday April 8th; Voting ends at Noon PST Friday April 8th
  • 2nd round: Voting starts at 1PM PST Friday April 8th; Voting ends at 11:59PM PST Friday April 8th
  • Quarterfinal Round: Voting starts at 1AM PST Saturday April 9th; Voting ends at 5PM PST Saturday April 9th
  • Semi-Final Round: Voting starts at Midnight Sunday April 10th; Voting ends at 11AM PST
  • Finals: Voting starts at Noon Sunday April 10th; Winner declared at 5:01PM PST

In the first round, Richard Parsons is faced off against Fury, from “The Hunters” by Heidi Angell.

So… Here’s my challenge… Come out to the event and hang with some great authors.

Book Spotlight – “Hero: The Hero Rebellion Book 1” by Belinda Crawford

Book Blurb

Centuries ago, humans colonised Jørn, a lonely planet on the far side of the galaxy. Arriving in five great colony ships, they quickly settled the surface only to discover, after a few short years, that the planet was killing them. The culprit, a native spore, carried on every wind to every corner of the globe.
Genetic engineering, blending DNA from Earth and Jørn species, saved their crops and livestock, but for humans there was no cure. Instead they took to the skies, turning their colony ships into cities that floated above the spore’s reach.
Hero Regan is special, and not in a way she likes. She hears voices, voices in her head that other people can’t. Surrounded by butlers, bodyguards and tutors, insulated from the outside world, her only solace is Fink, a six-hundred-kilogram, genetically engineered ruc-pard. They share lives, thoughts, triple-chocolate marshmallow ice-cream and the burning desire for freedom.
Their chance comes when Hero is allowed to attend school in Cumulus City. Here, along with making unexpected friends, Hero discovers she is an unwitting part of a master plan set into motion by the first colonists, a plan she must either help or foil if she’s ever to attain the freedom she craves.

From the Author

Belinda is a geek. She loves Star Wars, Dr Who, spaceships and girls who kick butt. When she’s not writing books or playing Guild Wars, she’s on a horse named Wombat or wrangling a small herd of cats.
Currently, Belinda is putting the finishing touches on the second book in The Hero Rebellion, due for release September this year.

The 2016 Brain To Books Cyber Convention is coming: April 8th – April 10th 2016

Last year, I took part in the 2015 Author Cyber Convention. And preparations are underway for this year’s event.

The amazing Angela B. Chrysler has once again reached out to authors around the world, and is in the throes of arranging a huge collection of events. Many of last year’s authors will be participating, and there will be games, competitions, Q&As, interviews, giveaways, author takeover events, blog hops, and so much more.

When Angela talks about the event format, she describes it in terms of being an online Comi-Con for readers. Authors were online throughout the weekend, on Goodreads and Facebook, as well as running events on their own blogs and sites.

If you’re an author, you’re welcome to come join the fun, and meet the readers. The event is going to be very flexible in terms of format, and suggestions are welcome.

For the readers, this is the ideal opportunity to discover authors you might not see on the bookshelves, and even find your new favorite book, or series. From past experience of taking part in smaller-scale events, I’ve almost always walked away with a handful of new books, and started following some amazing authors.

What Is The 2016 Brain To Books Cyber Convention?

Last year the event was called the 2015 Author Cyber Convention, this year, it’s called the Brain to Books Cyber Convention. A lot of things from last year remain the same, but there are some changes.
I can’t explain things any better than Angela, so I’m going to quote her email introduction, and invitation:

First, what is the Brain to Books Cyber Convention? Last year, was the first annual Brain to Books Cyber Convention #B2BCYCON. 200+ Authors and readers came together for this three day event. Modeled after Comi-Con, the Brain to Books Cyber Convention is online, free, and connects readers to authors. Authors basically put on a fantastic show for the readers. And yes, we want readers there! This year marks our second annual Cyber Convention. It is held here on Goodreads. This we we have expanded it to Facebook. If you are a reader wanting to attend, join this group — https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/… —mark your calendar for 8, 9, & 10 April 2016 and relax.

If you are an author and want to be part of this, great! Go here — https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/… — Join the groups (There are 2 Goodreads Groups for participating authors to join), then read the posts. PM me if you want to skip all that and are wanting to know more.

I am currently reaching out to all my groups, raising the awareness to bring everyone interested in early this year to make preparations. Yes. Some of you will get this message many times (Once from each of my groups. For that I am sorry). Yes. The convention requires 4 months to prepare for. It’s a lot of people. This year, we are projecting to see 400 attend!

A few changes to note:

1 – There is no sign up this year. Just join the groups, read the threads, and ask questions if you need.

2 – We are on Facebook this year. Be sure to join that group as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/95966…

3 – Thunderclaps are ready soon and will be posted as they come in. I am planning to do 3.

I’m A Reader, Where Can I Find Out More?

I’m A Writer, How Do I Get Involved?

Post Halloween Round-up & NaNoWriMo

wolf-ID8070-3076x3840 (2)So this week, I’ve a few things I want to remind people of, bring to people’s attention, and make note of. Apologies if this seems like a longer read than usual.

All Hallows Reads

As regular followers will know, I recently took part in the All Hallows Reads event over on Facebook. This was an amazing weekend of books, chat, competitions, and fun for all involved.

The event was arranged by a small number of authors, including the amazing Lilo Abernathy (who I’ve featured in my “Book Spotlight” a couple of times now). Lilo has found ways to put together online events that makes it seem effortless to those of us jumping on board. She not only managed to herd over twenty authors into the same event, but kept everything organized during the build-up to the event, as well as helping establish guidelines for how each of us could run our particular segments of the event.

I was lucky enough to be able to attend two full days, as well as open the event on Halloween morning, and close it at the end of the weekend. From the evidence of my own inbox (thank you Facebook for notifying me of updates by email, when I’d already seen the live), with well over two thousand messages received and deleted, a huge amount of fun was had by everyone.

One lucky winner came out of the event with a digital copy of “Moon Shadows“, and I also managed to gain a few new followers to my mailing list. So for me the weekend was a huge success.

Vampire Assassin’s League – Mega Set #1

I’ve also teamed up with the lovely Jackie Ivie, who is one of the local Alaskan authors I had the pleasure of meeting back in May. For those who’ve been following me for a while, we were two of the four panelists at Fireside Books when they held their Independent Bookstore day event.

I’ve been wanting to highlight Jackie’s books for a while, but she’s such a prolific writer that it was hard to pick just one. Also, since her stories appear in different combinations, (from single story, to three story sets, and two story collections set around a theme), it’s been hard to decide which one(s) to highlight.

However, Jackie has just put her Vampire Assassin’s League Mega Set #1 on sale for $0.99, for a limited time. And this was just the excuse I needed to help out a fellow Alaskan. Over the course of several emails, I had the pleasure of taking my experience from putting together the posters for All Hallows Reads and translating it into this poster for Jackie’s book spotlight appearance. I’m confident of my readers will enjoy Jackie’s writing style, because there is a good mixture of mythology, romance, and the supernatural.

NaNoWriMo 2015

November is National Novel Writers Month, where writers across the globe take on the monumental task of trying to write fifty thousand words over the course of one month.

This year I’ve done something very different to my previous attempts. Despite having completed the goal on four out of five attempts, I’ve never gone into the event with a plan before. I’ve written my 1,666 words per day with only the barest idea of where the plot was supposed to go, and very few ideas of what events had to happen when. So… This year it was time to put together an outline, and I have to say it’s enabled me to work with confidence that I know where each scene has to start, and where it has to end. Sure I’ve moved a couple of things around as I write, but that’s only to be expected if things seem to flow better that way.

So… with that in mind, I’m taking the rest of November off my mid-week blog spots, and concentrating my time on getting my word counts for each day.

Moving Home @ Short Notice

And as a final note. I’m in the process of trying to find a new house/apartment for myself and my wife, after almost ten years in my current apartment. My landlords have recently started to do long overdue renovations to the property that houses the apartments, and wants to start on the apartments themselves next. This means that I will be moving sometime between now and the end of January. Right now, we’re still looking for a place to move into within our price range, and the Alaskan winter is just kicking in. There may be some delays in posts while I move, and  get my internet hooked up.
